Todd Continued 4-13-11

The good news is that Todd does not have to worry about his bypass and valve replacement surgery turning out badly. The bad news is horrible, of course. At 44 years old, Todd suffered his second major heart attack last Friday night around 7:30 in the evening. Never one to wait around for ambulances, Mr. Stubborn rasped out instructions to his two kids to get in his Hummer. He made it to Troy Beaumont Hospital in just under 10 minutes without lapsing into unconsciousness and rolling the vehicle over. A team of 20 doctors and nurses set upon him the moment he staggered through the emergency doors. After a battery of tests confirmed his worst fears, Todd found himself and his kids in an ambulance anyway, heading (siren blaring) to the University of Michigan Medical Center. You see, it was too foggy for the Medivac chopper to land anywhere near the hospital, and with Todd strapped safely to a gurney in the back of the ambulance there wouldn't be any chance of him trying to fly/drive himself anywhere else that night. His test results arrived with him at U of M, and the first physician to examine him observed how lucky it was that a man with 20% heart function survived the journey. Todd, as focused as ever on his prognosis, took careful mental notes on the hot nurse in attendance so as to be able to describe her to me in vivid detail during our next conversation.  To be cont...
