This one could haunt houses 7-27-11
I am not going to try to convince you that I am constantly contacted by GQ magazine to appear on the cover. I realize that unless I am smiling, people tend to give me a little space when they walk past. Two years ago, I was visiting my uncle at a rehab facility and the director (I'm still not sure why) felt compelled to tell me that "I would sure hate to meet you in a dark alley." So I realize that although I may look in the mirror and see a young Mel Gibson looking back, others see an aging thug or a pumped up hit man. I just try to remember to smile more and don't worry about it. On the other hand, I do not try to get in front of every camera I see, either. The city of Detroit needs to try to send out a positive, enticing image of itself right now. It most definitely does not need to post pics of hideous, garishly made-up women to scare off the two remaining tourists who are thinking of going there. I have never been to " Bleu" in Detroit. I sure as heck do NOT want to go now! These ladies were on the headline page of the Detroit Free Press, showing me what a terrific "White Party" I missed. Click here. Yeeesh! What was the photographer thinking!? The one on the right has more make-up than a Revlon counter. It does not help. A Hannibal Lechter mask would be of more use. This "come hither" pic does not make me want to visit Club " Bleu." It makes me want to give Detroit a wiiiide berth as well. I realize it was a tough winter, but is this all that is left? Who is the photo editor at the Free Press anyway, Stevie Wonder?
