Furniture....cont. 10-22-10
I don't have to tell you that Michigan is not coming back. Not economically, anyway. Deep down, you already know. Auto companies are shipping jobs to any state that doesn't have a union. First tier suppliers are shipping jobs to any country with weak labor laws. My old buddy Art saw this comig a long time ago. He understood globalization before the word was invented. Almost everyone in Michigan is going to have to adjust to a much lower standard of living or work much harder just to survive. Except Art. The old coot, in spite of decreasing sales, has as much money flowing into his coffers as ever. To his credit, he had the foresight to ship jobs overseas well before any of us even realized there was a problem. Art was probably buying Mexican end tables while Cortez was conquering the Aztecs. Art's been sneaking jobs out faster than he and his Mistress leave a hotel when his wife is in the lobby. We can all tolerate a few cheap sofas coming in from Vietnam. A couple of rickety bedroom sets from Indonesia isn't the end of the world, either. His furniture isn't that rickety, you say? Hundreds of people beg to differ. Click here.
