St. Clair Shores Government Update 10-11-10

Anybody who has read Grosse Pointe Pimp or Inferno will recall that I had a workout studio in neighboring St. Clair Shores. It was located on Jefferson Avenue, shortly after it changed from Lake Shore Drive into Jefferson. It was a wonderfully thought out location and a terrific building for a workout studio. The landlord was terrific because I mailed the check every month and he never bothered me. It wasn't easy, however, to get approved to do business there. It was zoned CDL...or Commercial Lakefront District. This meant that every applicant, after filling out extensive paperwork and supplying several site plans, had to appear before the zoning board.  If approved, a meeting was then scheduled before the full city council. Only upon the approval of both entities was an occupancy permit granted. At the zoning board hearing, I sat Natasha in the front row wearing a miniskirt. I told them my studio would be a destination business that brought people in from all over. I let the grass grow past my knees in front of the vacant building. When they asked who would take care of the lawn, I told them it was not the landlords responsibility, it was mine. When they asked why it was so long, I told them I was in an awkward position. Without their approval, it was my understanding that I was not allowed to be there. They approved me by a vote of eight to zero. I cut the grass the next morning. One month later, the full council approved me nine to zero. Three months after signing the lease, I opened Shores Personal Training. People came from all over to work out there. Why all of this background? To Be Continued.....
