Scott Schuptrine 1-27-11
Many seasoned residents of the Detroit area will recall Scott Schuptrines. The original furniture chain consisted of three huge showroom/warehouses. My old boss Art Van wasn't getting along with his adult sons in the family business, so he bought these stores. He sent his sons into exile to run them. At one point in the 1990's, it seemed as though every other ad on late night television featured Art's son David as the pitchman for Scott Schuptrine. The family tried to continue selling the public on Schuptrine as the place to go for upscale furniture. They had a list of interior designers the customer could draw from. Naturally, the design staff recommended furniture lines that Scott Shuptrine carried. The last two stores of the "chain" were shuttered in 2002.
