Detroit Solutions 8-17-11
As several of my readers have pointed out over the past year, some of my posts sound as though I am beginning to lose faith in the City of Detroit. Allow me to make myself clear: I lost faith in the city many years ago after an incident that I write about in my book Grosse Pointe Inferno. Aware readers will recall my telling of the two young men that tried to send me to glory by throwing a chunk of concrete off an overpass at my vehicle. I have yet to publish or post anything about the Detroit drunk driver that turned in front of my sports cars and totalled it. In spite of my success at detaining him, the Detroit Police refused to investigate the accident and drove away. I knew the city was on its way out 30 years ago...but this was when the media encouraged us to "Stand up and tell 'em you're from Detroit!" Really...that was a real campaign...remember? As I peruse the online newspapers that cover the area, I am as appalled as anyone at the recent record spate of shootings and deaths. My only solace is that many of those who are checking out early from this planet are not exactly gainfully employed. There appears to be a certain "weeding out" process going on, but nevertheless still far too many innocent people are getting slaughtered as well. It is time, however, to stop saying "I told you so" from my keyboard down in Sarasota, Florida and start coming up with solutions to the madness. To be cont...
