Still Spinning the Truth 10-30-11

Just read a press release from my ol buddy Art Van. It claims that he is hiring 130 new sales associates for the holiday season because sales are going to be HOPPIN" and the company needs to prepare. Oh, Brother! First of all, at the rate that people quit and Art fires them (that's called the attrition rate), the company will be down 130 employees by Christmas anyway. I do not believe too many of his employees make it to retirement anymore, so we will not speculate on that number. Second, if I were hiring a large group of new employees, I would not tell anyone. Logic tells you that these employees will be less experienced that the current staff. They will be less familiar with the inventory, available fabrics, color combinations, etc. Has anyone ever heard of the expression "it's like the blind leading the blind?" Sure you have.
