A reader of the first novel, Grosse Pointe Pimp, who has an exceptional memory will recall that I wrote about a formerly upscale bedroom community on the outskirts of the Pointes. The community is named Harper Woods, and this neat little community fascinated me back in 2003 primarily because I used to have a client that lived there and boasted incessently about its affordable exclusivity. In Pimp, I wrote about Eastland Mall, and the fact that its location inside of Harper Woods, combined with its proximity to Detroit, gave quaint Harper Woods one of the highest crime rates in the nation! Unfortunately, it hasn't gotten any better in the last seven years. Click here. I will not depress you even further by citing the plummeting home values in Harper Woods. Let us just agree that it is not as exclusive as it once was but at least it is a lot more affordable. Where am I going with all this, you may ask? As I pointed out in the first sentence, Harper Woods is on the outskirts of the Pointes.
